It’s official – the public have spoken and crowned Bournemouth as the Best UK Coastal Resort. The triumph was announced at the recent British Travel Awards held in London, with Bournemouth beating stiff competition from Looe, Cornwall and Tenby, Pembrokeshire, which received silver and bronze awards.

The British Travel Awards are uniquely positioned to offer an insight into the companies and attractions that have received their customers’ vote of confidence. Unlike most travel awards – where a panel of judges or industry pundits have influence over the final results – British Travel Award winners have received their accolades by simply receiving more consumer votes than their competitors.

The British Travel Awards are a fantastic award to win as they reflect the opinion of the public and Bournemouth has been working its way up to the winning position for the past two years receiving silver place for the same award in 2012 and Bronze in 2011.

Mark Smith, Director of Bournemouth Tourism said: ‘It’s great to see Bournemouth receiving the recognition it deserves. Bournemouth Tourism work extremely hard to ensure the town remains on the public’s list as a favourite UK holiday destination. There’s always an abundance of free events, the parks and gardens are absolutely stunning – it doesn’t surprise me that the public voted for Bournemouth!’

Bournemouth continues to develop as an award-winning destination with the Bournemouth Air Festival being recognised across the globe as one of the world’s top 10 air shows. The town’s events continue to grow with the brand new Wheels Festival, which is set to be the UK’s biggest free wheels themed event, taking place from 24th – 26th May, 2014.
